  1. 1Combine yeast, sugar, and warm milk; stir until yeast is dissolved.
  2. 2Stir in egg yolks and soft butter.
  3. 3Mix in flour to form a stiff dough.
  4. 4Divide dough into three pieces; roll one piece to fit the bottom of a nine-inch pan.
  5. 5Spread preserves on top of dough.
  6. 6Roll out second piece of dough and place on top of preserves.
  7. 7Spread preserves on top of second layer of dough and top with third piece of dough rolled out.
  8. 8Cover and let rise for one hour.
  9. 9Bake for 25 minutes at 350Β°F.
  10. 10Remove the pastry from the oven.
  11. 11Beat egg whites, vanilla, and sugar until stiff.
  12. 12Spread on pastry and sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
  13. 13Return pastry to oven and bake for 15 minutes or until light brown.
